We woke this morning to the news that the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) walked off the job in response to the government’s proposed changes to Canada Post’s operating model. At this time, Canada Post is not accepting new mail into the mailstream, and mail that is currently in the delivery process is being held until the strike is resolved.
According to Canada Post, “Mail and parcels will not be processed or delivered for the duration of the national strike, and some post offices will be closed”, and “All mail and parcels in the postal network will be secured and delivered as quickly as possible once operations resume”.
Postalytics Advice for Customers Mailing in Canada
At this time, we do not have any ability to process new mailings beyond the “Printed” stage. Mailings that have been received after the strike will be held in queue and processed as soon as there’s a resolution. At this time, we advise clients to hold off on new campaigns in Canada until we have more information on potential resolution dates. For organizations working on both sides of the border, we recommend focusing campaign activities in the U.S. until the strike is over.
U.S. Service Not Impacted
Since the strike is confined to Canada Post delivery, none of our U.S. operations are affected. Our service in the U.S. is working at a very high level and we are seeing a big spike in direct mail usage heading into the fall holiday seasons.
