Introducing Postalytics MailBack™: Turn Anonymous Website Visitors Into Direct Mail Campaigns

Only a fraction of the people who visit your website ever fill out a form, start a chat, or give you their email address. Everyone else — the majority of your traffic — leaves without a trace. No name. No email. No way to follow up.

Introducing MailBack™

Marketers have accepted this as the cost of doing business online. You run ads to bring people to your site, and most of them disappear the moment they close the tab. Retargeting ads can chase them around the internet with banners they’ll ignore, but you still don’t know who they are.

At Postalytics, we don’t think anonymous traffic should be a dead end.

Today, we’re launching Postalytics MailBack — a website visitor identification and direct mail retargeting capability that identifies the people browsing your site and automatically puts a personalized mail piece in their mailbox, with no manual list-pulling and no separate vendor to manage.

The Problem: Your Website Traffic Is Mostly Invisible

Here’s the uncomfortable math behind most websites: the overwhelming majority of visitors leave without identifying themselves in any way. They read a page, maybe two, and move on. Your ad spend, your SEO investment, and your content all did their job — they got someone to your site — and then the trail goes cold.

The tools marketers have used to solve this only get you part of the way there:

  • Digital retargeting ads (Google, Meta) can follow anonymous visitors around the web, but they can’t tell you a name, an address, or an email. You’re guessing at intent, not talking to a person.
  • First-generation, IP-based visitor ID tools try to unmask visitors, but they typically match only 20–25% of traffic and often can’t deliver a full name and mailing address, just a probable company or household.
  • Manual list-building means someone on your team exporting form fills, cross-referencing CRM records, and building a mailing list by hand, days or weeks after the visitor was actually on your site.

None of these close the loop. None of them turn a website visit into a piece of mail in someone’s hand while the visit is still fresh.

The Solution: Identify the Visitor, Then Automate the Mail

MailBack changes the equation by connecting two things Postalytics already does well: identifying who’s engaging with your brand, and automating direct mail without manual work.

Here’s how it works, end to end:

1. Install a Pixel You add a short JavaScript snippet to your site, the same way you’d install any analytics or ad pixel. Postalytics walks you through a guided setup wizard so you can configure exactly which pages fire the pixel, which visitors qualify (based on pageviews, time on site, or both), and which geographies you want to target.

2. MailBack Identifies the Visitor When a visitor meets your engagement criteria, MailBack matches them against identity graphs to resolve name, mailing address, and (depending on the data tier you choose) a rich set of demographic details. Because MailBack uses multiple identity graphs rather than a single IP-based lookup, match rates run well above legacy visitor-ID approaches.

3. Suppression Runs Automatically Before a lead ever reaches your mailing list, MailBack checks it against your existing contacts and any suppression lists you’ve uploaded, so you’re not mailing people who are already customers or who’ve opted out.

4. Direct Mail Triggers Automatically Every qualified lead flows into a Postalytics Campaign Flow, the same automation engine behind our Triggered Drip and multi-touch campaigns. That means a MailBack lead isn’t just a one-off postcard: you can build multi-touch sequences, A/B test creative and offers, branch based on the visitor’s data, or hold a control group out entirely.

5. You Track Everything Every pixel gets its own reporting dashboard: lead volume, top states, top pages, and a step-by-step pipeline health check so you can see at a glance whether visitors are actually flowing through to a live campaign.

Built for Accuracy: How MailBack Keeps Lead Quality High

Identifying a visitor is only useful if the data behind that identification is accurate. MailBack layers in several data quality checks before a lead ever reaches your mailing list:

  • Multiple identity graphs, not one. Rather than relying on a single IP-based lookup, MailBack cross-references multiple identity graphs simultaneously, which is what drives higher match rates than legacy visitor-ID tools.
  • USPS-standard address hygiene. Matched addresses are run through standard postal hygiene processes before they’re delivered as leads, reducing undeliverable mail and wasted spend.
  • Validated, opted-in email addresses. Email addresses delivered with a lead are validated and CAN-SPAM compliant, so any email touch you layer on top of direct mail reaches a real inbox.
  • Automatic suppression. Every lead is checked against your existing contacts and suppression lists before it’s added to a campaign, and a configurable suppression window (from one month up to indefinite) prevents the same visitor from being re-captured repeatedly.

The result is a lead list built for mailing, not a raw data dump you have to clean up yourself.

Choose the Data Tier That Fits Your Audience

MailBack offers flexible data tiers so you only pay for the level of identification your campaign needs:

  • B2C tiers for consumer audiences, ranging from name-and-address matching up to a premium tier with a full consumer data profile and demographic fields like income, homeownership, and life stage.
  • A B2B tier for teams that need to identify the businesses and business contacts visiting their site.
  • An optional phone append add-on for teams on a B2C tier who want a phone number alongside mail and email.

MailBack runs as an add-on subscription on top of any Postalytics plan, with per-lead pricing based on the data tier and packages you select, plus a monthly budget cap you control. You’ll never be billed for more leads than you’ve budgeted for, and production and postage for the mail itself are billed the normal way through your Postalytics campaigns.

Compliance, Built In

Identifying website visitors by name and mailing address means privacy compliance has to be part of the product, not an afterthought. Here’s what MailBack does, and what we recommend on your end:

  • Cookie consent. A number of US states require systems like MailBack to give visitors the ability to opt out of accepting cookies. We’ve implemented CookieYes on our own site to manage these requirements, consistent with the same cookie consent obligations that apply to digital retargeting products from Meta, Google, and others.
  • Opted-in, CAN-SPAM compliant email. Any email address delivered through MailBack has already been validated and is CAN-SPAM compliant.
  • Automatic suppression, including opt-outs. Suppression runs on every lead before it reaches a campaign, and a suppression API supports real-time opt-out processing.
  • US-only. MailBack identifies and serves US website traffic, and the underlying data only resolves US addresses. Because of that, GDPR and other non-US privacy frameworks don’t apply.

This overview is meant as a starting point, not legal advice. Privacy requirements vary by state and by your industry, so we recommend looping in your own legal or compliance team as you roll MailBack out.

Why This Matters: Multi-Touch Beats a Single Postcard

Most visitor-ID vendors stop at “we found the person, here’s a mailing list.” MailBack is built on top of Postalytics Flows, so identification is just the starting point.

That distinction matters because direct mail response data consistently shows that a single touch is rarely enough. Research from Franklin Madison’s 2026 consumer study found that 69% of consumers need two or more mailings before they act, and 95% of marketers surveyed plan to maintain or grow their direct mail investment this year. A visitor-ID tool that only sends one postcard is leaving that lift on the table. MailBack is designed for sequences, not single shots.
